NOVA Online offers a variety of webinars, recordings, and on-demand workshops to help you get started and succeed in your online courses. Using the computer or mobile device of your choice and a high-speed, reliable internet connection, you will be able to participate in the webinars, review the recordings, and take advantage of the on-demand workshops. A Web-cam or microphone is not required; text chat will be utilized during the webinars for participants to ask questions. All webinars, recordings, and workshops are free; however, registration is required.

How to Participate in a Webinar or Request a Recording

Webinars are delivered via an online meeting platform called Zoom.

After completing the registration form, you will receive an automatic email with more information about the session. If you do not receive an email, double check your email address and re-submit the request. For all the webinars listed in the Library Resources area, you will receive an email 24-48 hours prior to the start of your session with log-in information.

On-Demand Workshops and Recordings are provided by Student Lingo and NOVA Online Staff.

If you need closed captions to access online materials, contact interpreters@nvcc.edu. Please give at least 5 business days' notice to schedule captions. We will try to honor your request with shorter notice but cannot make any guarantees. Captions may be viewed on PC laptops or desktops, tablets with Windows software (like Surface Pro), MAC laptops or desktops. Captions cannot be viewed on mobile devices.

NOVA Online – National Career Development Month Webinar Series November 2019

November is National Career Development Month. NCDM was designed to highlight the importance of life-long career development and the personal empowerment of all people. This lunchtime webinar series will focus on various aspects of career development with the goal of helping you make informed decisions about your academic and career goals. All webinars will be offered from 12:15 pm - 12:45 pm EST.

Exploring Career Options

This 45 minute webinar will focus on using various online resources to research career options.  The relationship between programs of study at NOVA, college majors, and career options will be discussed.  Resources presented will provide information on nature of work, educational requirements, job outlook, and wages.

Finding a Job or Internship

This 45 minute webinar will focus on basic strategies for finding a job or internship. Topics covered will include creating a plan, identifying sources of job/internship leads, and resume, cover letter, and interview basics.

Crossing the Finish Line: Graduation Preparation

View this 17 minute video to obtain information on what you need to graduate from NOVA and plan for transfer or prepare for employment. You will learn how verify the remaining requirements of your program, apply for graduation and attend commencement, and financially prepare for your last semester at NOVA and your new institution.

NOVA Online Orientation

The NOVA Online Orientation is a two-part video recording providing a general overview for students enrolled in NOVA Online courses offered through Northern Virginia Community College. Part 1 of the Orientation will cover Student Services information, focusing on getting started in your courses, accessing your Canvas course site, identifying tips for success, and student support services. Part 2 will show you a sample Canvas course and demonstration the course navigation. The NOVA Online Orientation is highly recommended for students who are new to online learning.

Focus on Your Career Development

This 30 minute webinar will introduce students to FOCUS 2 an online, interactive, self-guided career and education planning system.  The system can help students select a program/major based on their interests and aspirations, discover occupations matching their personal preferences and attributes, map out their career plans - present and future, and make informed career decisions.

StudentLingo is a series of interactive on-demand video workshops, action plans, and valuable resources focused on helping students achieve their academic, personal and career goals. This 45 minute webinar for NOVA students will focus on strategies and tips for being successful in distance learning courses offered through NOVA Online. Topics covered will include time management, schedule planning, learning preferences, and support resources.

It’s never too early to begin planning your transfer to a four-year college. This one-hour webinar will discuss the basics of transfer academic planning; transfer resources and tools, including discussion on guaranteed admission agreements and articulation agreements; and transfer application tips.
