Collaborate Tips

  • Browsers
    Check system and browser compatibility
    Mac – Use Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/). Safari  and Chrome are not fully supported.
    PC – Use either Firefox or Internet Explorer. Chrome is not fully supported.
  • Java may be required
    Make sure Java is installed on your computer (www.java.com/getjava/). You may need administrator rights to install it.
  • Clear java cache
    When launching a session it is possible that cached java files can cause problems.

  • Audio issues
    Run the audio setup wizard. Even if you ran it upon entering the session, running it again will often help resolve audio problems. There is no limit to the number of times you can run the audio setup wizard during a session.
  • Connection issues
    Collaborate detects your connection speed upon session launch, but you can choose a slower speed if you have trouble with your connection.
    At the top of the screen, go to Edit > Preferences > Session and choose a slower speed.
  • Wireless connection not recommended
    If possible, use a wired connection instead of Wi-Fi.
  • System resources
    Close and exit other programs running on your computer for optimal performance.
  • Locating links
    If you have trouble locating the link in your Blackboard course to enter a session or to view a recording, check the start and end dates when searching. You may need to change the dates to a broader range.
  • Participant use
    If you are not a moderator, consider attending using an iPad. A Blackboard Collaborate app is available from the app store.
